Cleaning Up Ukraine
This April, for the third time, Ukraine held a nationwide spring-clean involving almost 140,000 volunteers in more than 370 cities and towns in all over the country. The initiative Let’s Make Ukraine Clean was held as part of the worldwide social project Let’s Do It! placing Ukraine in the company of nearly 90 countries around the globe aiming to make our home – the Earth – cleaner. What’s On looks at the problem of waste management in Kyiv and wider Ukraine to see what attitudes the country has when it comes to rubbish.

In 1982, British pop-rocker and original frontman for band Smokie, Chris Norman, left the band for a career of his own. Teaming up with German producer Dieter Bohlen, already famous for his Modern Talking and CC Catch projects, their collaboration went on to prove quite fruitful. Today, having produced more than 20 albums, not counting those he wrote with Smokie, Norman continues to tour the world – despite his 62 years!

Premium Dining
In French, the word entrecote denotes a premium cut of beef used for steaks. Taking an adaption of this word is the latest restaurant at which What’s On takes a table. Like the cut of beef, Antrekot aims for premium class and reaches it easily – this is a venue that easily ranks among the best dining options in Kyiv.

FEMEN: Expelled from Tunisia
They haven’t reared their pretty heads in some weeks, and so it was only a matter of time before FEMEN appeared on international news sites everywhere. This time, however, it’s a little more serious, as three European members are facing trial in Tunisia.
Pauline Hillier and Marguerite Stern from France, and Josephine Markmann from Germany have been charged with public indecency after protesting topless on 29 May in front of Tunisia’s Palace of Justice. Their mission was simple: strip down, in what was the group’s first semi-nude protest in the Middle East. The result: arrest and trial.

What’s On: Read All Over the World (#22)
The entries What’s On receives in this competition are of your typical sunny day variety, showing off various landmark in their best light. Which is why this next one by Oksana Musiy made us turn our heads: with friend Rob in the foreground, and the Dome of London’s St Paul’s Cathedral in the background, a storm is brewing overhead, giving this photo a rather ominous effect.

Free as a Bird
The sensation of freefall feels more like flying than falling, albeit clumsily. Yet, this is a freefall that requires no aircraft and no parachute; in fact, you’re never far from the ground at all. What’s On goes into a freefall simulator here in Kyiv and gains an insight into why birds sing.
